![]() Neutron: only 2 vco's, but these have continuously variable shapes (by this I mean that you can get half saw/half square type waves) - which is reaaaally cool (the lfo can do this trick aswell). This one can be used as another lfo, and for FM. On the back Nyx V2 offers a Line-Out, Phones Out, Midi-In & -Thru, as well as a series of dip switches for setting the Midi channel and switching between Unison and Duophone mode. OSC's - Erebus: 3 vco's, with the third one being the wilder/weirder of the bunch. The reverb effect, ranging from dark, ambient drone sounds to epic leads à la Blade Runner, has been given four more controls, so it's much more than a simple effect it's an integral part of the handcrafted desktop synthesizer's characteristic sound. The powerful oscillators known from the predecessor can be flexibly routed and tuned, which allows endless sound design possibilities with the dual VCF (LP, HP, BP & PAR), which can also be routed independently of each other.Īnother highlight of the Nyx V2 is the extraordinary reverb based on the Splash Mk3 from Crazy Tube Circuits. For everything else, the Nyx is really great and interesting. With the Dreadbox Nyx V2, the Greek boutique manufacturer has oriented itself to the design and form factor of the highly acclaimed Erebus V3, which enables much more intuitive and, thanks to a total of 30 patch points, more flexible gaming and even more complex integration into Eurorack systems. I find the Nyx v1 not the best Dreadbox offering for bass to be honest, not sure what it is, but it sounds thinner than the Erebus when I try to go for bass…could be the filter. To because you keep asking about the Nyx’s bass capabilities, see my comment above re Erebus vs Nyx for that. The Nyx is quite complex with all its routing capabilities and dual filter, and it is definitely NOT one big sweet spot, but once you get it, it’s a really amazing synth for atmospheres etc. I think you can’t go wrong with either (v1/v2). ![]() I find those Dreadbox synths to be really amazing value for money, such great sound and well thought-out designs, they are really something. In greek mythology terms the difference between nyx and erebus is that nyx is the primordial goddess of night while erebus is the personification of darkness and shadow, brother-husband of Nyx, and son of Chaos/Kaos. Me personally, I prefer the last gen sounds to each, Erebus and Nyx, which is why I didn’t upgrade them thus far. Not better or worse, just a little different. The v1 had some quality control issues, but the Dreadbox crew is really helpful and fast to fix/replace faulty units.Īlso v1 and v2 don’t sound exactly the same. The new gen Erebus and Nyx are SMT soldered (if you care for this sort of stuff). What speaks for v1, is the form factor and the fact that those are still through-hole soldered. ![]() ![]() Designed specifically for the Erebus v3 and Nyx v2. The even more flexible Dual Filter in addition with the Ambient. Help them stand out and find your sound with the DBDT stands from 3DWaves. Main selling point for the Nyx v2 are the additional patch points, better layout, the separate LFO controls, and the additional reverb controls. An enhanced version in a more compact enclosure, following the shape of the Erebus V3. ![]()
